A brief history

The invention of the television in its various incarnations is quite the achievement. The earliest examples of television can be traced back to the turn of the century when engineers were still inventing the fabled electron. The first television sets were produced by the early 20th century's industrial giants. The technology was soon adapted to the consumer market by companies such as General Electric, who introduced the first commercially viable television sets in 1927. The television's heyday was short lived as competition was fierce and newer technologies, such as radio, came along.
